The world belongs to the energetic.– Ralph Waldo Emerson

How do you keep spirits high when a situation looks bleak? Daily I listen to horror stories of foreclosures, short-selling homes, unemployment and downsizing. It is not the customers fault energy is slipping around them. Is it possible to look past the gloom? Should you fake excitement, or will others discern your mood is inauthentic? In the current economic climate, leaders in all types of businesses should be asking themselves these questions daily.

As a customer experience leader, I am responsible for maintaining a level of encouragement for the associates. Sellers have a difficult time performing when they feel undervalued or unappreciated by the customer and/or their leaders. Recently I discussed this with a friend who informed me her passion was waning due to unresponsive consumer behavior. She is one of the finest salesmen I know, as she selflessly attempts to meet and exceed customer desires.

Lesson learned: have a passion for fashion

I relate to the love for product and the company she works for, because I feel similar towards my internal customers as she does the external. When I sense their zeal, time begins to quickly whiz past me.  Surges of energy invigorate me as I engage with  associates and watch them in action with customers.

I can’t help smiling as I bounce around ensuring my customers have what they need to be successful. After all, it is my role to make their jobs easier. It would be great if I could bottle up that energy for use during an off time. On the next occasion I experience an energizing synergistic day, I will try to visualize circumstances surrounding this idyllic moment. I may not be able to bottle the sensation, but if I can remember it, I can relive it.

#trust 30 prompt: Energy by Julia E It’s easy to blame our failure to meet our goals or to live our dream lives on a lack of energy, and we don’t always stop to think about the quality of energy in our lives. Yet we can choose to create and manage our own energy flow.

Think of an instance when you’ve been so involved in an activity that you’ve lost track of time, and then identity the passions and energies you were feeding. Who was there with you? What were you doing? What will you do to make time for moments like that one more often? Author: Julia E.
